Microneedling therapy, often referred to as “Dermaroller” or “Collagen Induction” therapy is a skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing treatment that involves creating micro-injuries to the skin to stimulate the skin repair cells to produce new collagen and elastin. Additionally the microneedle channels allow for the entry of pharmaceutical grade products and platelet rich plasma (PRP) to access the deeper layers of the skin, exerting a more enhanced effect on the repair and rejuvenation process to provide superior results.

The treatment is effective for a number of conditions including fine lines and wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation and dull skin, scars, stretch marks and cellulite. In a 2009 study (Microneedling Therapy in Atrophic Facial Scars: An Objective Assessment, published in the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery, 2009 Jan-Jun; 2(1): 26–30) 37 patients underwent microneedling procedures to treat atrophic (sunken) facial scarring associated with acne and chicken pox.

After a number of treatments by qualified professionals 80% of the patients studied saw a reduction in their scarring and rated their treatment as “excellent”.

A specially developed and technologically advanced electronic micronedling pen with disposable sterile tips is used to carry out the treatment. The majority of patients opt for microneedling therapy in conjunction with PRP therapy for maximal repair and regeneration.

A very effective topical local anaesthetic cream is applied to make the treatment as painless as possible; patients describe the treatment as mildy uncomfortable. A number of precautions are to be taken pre- and post-operatively. All patients undergo a thorough examination and for optimum results a course of treatments are recommended.
